Wildcats Spring Sports Update (May 9, 2025)

Boys Golf

Will Roome shot a 40 to lead Warwick to the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) Division 2 Championship at Warwick Valley Country Club on April 30. The Wildcats won the match with a score of 174, beating Minisink Valley (188), Valley Central (193) and Washingtonville (219).

Matt Poje shot a 42, Shaun Kunisch shot a 45 and Andy Chen shot a 47 for Warwick.

“The players have been working hard this season and have been competing at a high level,” coach Peter Scheuermann said. “Although this is a team sport, each player has been working diligently toward some sort of personal goal. These goals range from earning a starting spot in the line up, to making the County tournament for the first time, and we even have a few select players that have their sights set on the State tournament.”

The Wildcats (8-4) completed a successful regular season with a 233-244 victory over Kingston on May 2. Up next are the OCIAA and Section 9 tournaments.


Boys Lacrosse

In the history of Warwick boys lacrosse, 10 players have scored more than 100 goals. Three of those players, Dylan Sullivan, Ryan Sullivan and Joey Finn, reached the century mark this season.

Joey Finn is the latest member of the 100-goal club. He scored five goals, including No. 100, to lead the Wildcats to a 15-13 victory over Arlington on May 3. Dylan and Ryan Sullivan each scored three goals in a 17-4 victory over Goshen on April 23.

In their most recent game, the Wildcats defeated Kingston 18-5 to improve their record to 11-0. Warwick has outscored its opponents 177-83 so far this season.

Girls Lacrosse

Sophia Mazza scored five goals and added four assists to pace Warwick past Cornwall 18-12 on May 7. Keira Ginley scored four goals for the Wildcats. Kaitlyn Larney and Cameron Knox each had three goals.

In a game against Delaware Valley., Pa., on May 2, Mazza scored six goals and Kaitlyn Larney scored four times. The Wildcats have a 6-6 record.


Baseball

Garrett Srednicki hit a three-run home run in Warwick’s 9-6 loss to Minisink Valley on May 7. Jack Gobinski had a two-run homer for the Wildcats, who are 5-9 this season.
Michael Molinelli and Luca Siebert each homered in a 17-9 loss to Washingtonville on May 22.

Softball

Senior first baseman Etta Garofalo had two hits, including the 100th of her career, in Warwick’s 14-1 victory over Washingtonville on May 8. Rylee Moore had three hits for the Wildcats (8-5).

Winning pitcher Jalyn Rosario had two hits and three RBI. Eva Garofalo also had two hits, including a triple.

The Wildcats lost to Minisink Valley 4-2 on May 7. Warwick celebrated its seniors with a 13-1 victory over Washingtonville on May 1. Etta Garofalo went 4-for-4 with five RBI. Olivia Martino was the winning pitcher.


Boys Track and Field

Luke Beattie finished first in the pole vault (14 feet, six inches), 100-meter dash (10.66 seconds) and 200-meter dash (21.87) in a meet against Goshen on May 7. Leo Shostal won the 800 (2:06.61) and placed second in both the 1,600 (4:42.79) and 3,200 (10:13.01). 
Isaiah Gonzalez won the long jump (21-2) and took third in the triple jump and 200. Roman Anderson was first in the 400 (50.96).

Girls Track and Field

Lilybeth Kuroz and Lilian Rother were both double winners in a meet against Goshen on May 7. Kuroz placed first in the long jump (14-4) and 100 hurdles (16.23). She was also second in the 400 (1:04.74). Rother won the shot put (28-7.5) and discus (90-7).

Boys Tennis

Warwick boys tennis player reaches to return the ball.

Freshman Denis McAteer defeated Christopher Drake 7-6, 6-3 at No. 1 singles to help Warwick edge Cornwall 4-3 in a varsity boys tennis match on May 2. Victor Januario and Isaac Liang each posted three-set victories in their singles matches.
