At Park Avenue Elementary School, students are challenged to meet their potential in a stimulating, safe and nurturing environment.
Children learn and practice the principles of a respectful community. Our objectives are accomplished through a partnership among students, parents and community members.
Our elementary schools have an average class size of 20 students. The New York State Standards-based curriculum is reviewed on a regular basis to ensure its focus on basic academic skills, with emphasis on problem-solving, critical thinking and good study habits. Elementary students receive regular instruction in art, music, physical education, health and library/research skills. In addition, youngsters may choose to participate in a variety of clubs and extracurricular activities. Warwick’s elementary schools consistently exceed similar Orange County school districts on the New York State Assessments. Our K-12 music program is highly recognized at both the county and state levels, with instruction in band and strings beginning in grade 4.
A National Blue Ribbon School
The U.S. Secretary of Education has designated Park Avenue Elementary School a 2006 NCLB-Blue Ribbon School. The No Child Left Behind—Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private K-12 schools that are either academically superior in their states or that demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement. The program requires schools to meet specific assessment criteria.
In accordance with the criteria, Park Avenue was rewarded because students scored in the top 10 percent on state assessment tests. Park Avenue’s fourth grade state English/language arts exam scores were in the top 2 percent, and fourth grade math scores were in the top 6 percent of all elementary schools in New York State during the 2004-05 school year.
A National Green Ribbon School
The U.S. Department of Education honored Park Avenue Elementary School with the 2018
Green Ribbon Schools award for its innovative efforts to reduce environmental impact and costs, promote better health, and ensure effective environmental education.
The prestigious ED-GRS awards program recognize schools where staff, students, officials and communities work together to produce energy efficient, sustainable and healthy school environments, while ensuring the environmental literacy of their graduates. The U.S. Department of Education deems these practices as proven to improve student engagement, academic achievement, graduation rates, and workforce preparedness–and part of a government-wide goal to increase energy independence and economic security.
